Qorban: Restoring the Heart of Drawing Near to Yahwah

Section 4 of 5

Section 04

III. Study Outline

  • Section I. The First Covering: Mercy Before Ritual
  • Scripture Reference: Genesis 3:21 .
  • Analysis: Before man ever offered anything to Yahwah, Yahwah offered a covering for man . This was not a 'temple service', but rather a Father responding to the shame of His children . The origin of sacrifice is found in Yahwah’s provision, not man’s performance .
  • Section II. The Heart of the Giver: Cain and Abel
  • Scripture Reference: Genesis 4:3-7 .
  • Analysis: Yahwah’s direct words to Cain—"If you do well, will you not be accepted?"—reveal that the acceptance of an offering is tied to the state of the heart . The 'tradition of man' focuses on the quality of the animal, while the Word focuses on the quality of the soul .
  • Section III. The Altar of Earth: Simplicity vs. Sophistication
  • Scripture Reference: Exodus 20:24-26 .
  • Analysis: Immediately after the Ten Words, Yahwah commands altars of simple earth or unhewn stone, explicitly forbidding steps and 'man-made' tools on the stones . This served as a safeguard against the 'business' of religion, keeping the focus on the Almighty rather than the architecture or the prestige of the administration .
  • Section IV. The Great Correction: What Was Actually Commanded?
  • Scripture Reference: Jeremiah 7:22-23 .
  • Analysis: In a stunning direct address, Yahwah declares that when He brought Israel out of Egypt, He did not command them concerning burnt offerings . His primary command was: "Obey My voice" . This suggests the elaborate sacrificial system was a secondary framework—a concession for a rebellious people—rather than His original intent .
  • Section V. The Prophetic Indictment of the 'Temple Business' [4, 5]
  • Scripture Reference: Malachi 1:10-14, Amos 5:21-24 .
  • Analysis: By the time of the prophets, the system had become a weariness to the Almighty, prompting Him to express a desire to 'shut the doors' of the temple . The priests were profiting from the sins of the people, turning a path to 'draw near' into a toll booth . Yahwah demands justice and righteousness over the 'noise' of their songs and meat .
  • Section VI. The Broken Spirit: The True Sacrifice
  • Scripture Reference: Psalm 51:16-17, Hosea 6:6 .
  • Analysis: David understood what the priests often forgot: "For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it... The sacrifices of Elohim are a broken spirit" . This is the ultimate return to the Word, recognizing that the Almighty wants our hearts rather than our livestock .
