Words You'll Learn in This Study

As we read this story, you'll see some words in a language called Hebrew — the language that Yah's people spoke long ago. Don't worry, we'll teach you each one as we go! By the end, you'll know these words like old friends.

  • Yah — The name of the Almighty, the Creator of everything. This is His real name!
  • Moses (Moshe) — The man Yah chose to lead His people out of Egypt.
  • Aaron (Aharon) — Moshe's brother who helped him speak to the king.
  • Miriam (Miryam) — Moshe's big sister who watched over him as a baby.
  • Pharaoh (Par'oh) — The king of Egypt who kept Yah's people as slaves.
  • Egypt (Matsarim) — The country where Yah's people were trapped.
  • Israel (Yasharal) — Yah's chosen people, the family He made a promise to.
  • Passover (Pesach) — The night Yah saved His people by passing over their houses.
  • Unleavened bread (Matsah) — Flat bread made without yeast, eaten during Pesach.
  • Torah (Thurah) — Yah's instructions for how to live — His teaching.
