Drawing Near: A Child’s Guide to Yahwah’s Heart

Section 4 of 5

Section 04

III. Study Outline

  • A. The First Coat of Love
  • Scripture Reference: Genesis 3:21 .
  • Lesson & Theological Argument: When Adam and Eve were sad and embarrassed, Yahwah didn't ask them for a gift . Instead, He gave them a gift—the first covering . This shows us that sacrifice started with Yahwah taking care of us because He loves us .
  • B. The 'Heart' Test
  • Scripture Reference: Genesis 4:3-7 .
  • Lesson & Theological Argument: Cain and Abel both brought gifts . Abel brought his best because he loved Yahwah, while Cain just brought 'some stuff' . Yahwah told Cain that if he 'did well' (had a good heart), he would be accepted . It’s not about the gift; it’s about the love inside the person giving it .
  • C. No Fancy Steps Allowed!
  • Scripture Reference: Exodus 20:24-26 .
  • Lesson & Theological Argument: Yahwah told His people to make altars out of simple dirt or plain rocks . He said 'No steps!' and 'No fancy tools!' . Why? Because He doesn't want us to show off or make it a big, expensive business . He wants it to be simple and honest .
  • D. Listening is the Best Gift
  • Scripture Reference: 1 Samuel 15:22 .
  • Lesson & Theological Argument: Imagine if you gave your mom a flower but then didn't listen when she asked you to clean your room; the flower wouldn't mean much, right ? Yahwah says that 'to obey is better than sacrifice' . Listening to His Word is the best way to 'draw near' to Him .
  • E. Don't Turn the Temple into a Store
  • Scripture Reference: Malachi 1:10 .
  • Lesson & Theological Argument: A long time ago, some people tried to turn Yahwah’s house into a business to make money, which made Yahwah very sad . He wants us to come to Him because we love Him, not because we are trying to follow a boring or greedy tradition .
